Xstyle 1.5 is an XTension to QuarkXPress that provides easy, continual access to many XPress character, paragraph and style sheet settings normally “locked up” behind a cumbersome set of menu selections and deeply-nested dialog box interactions.
Xstyle adds two new floating palettes to XPress: one for paragraph and character properties, and one for style sheet viewing and editing.
Xstyle was designed with the serious keyboard user in mind, and provides “mouse-free” ways to change paragraph, character and style sheet settings. For each group of these settings, you can define a “hot key” that takes you directly from editing text into either the first or the most-recently-used field of the relevant palette (your choice, via a preference item), with just one keystroke.
Xstyle goes way beyond XPress 3.x’s simple style list palette, providing easy multiple-level “undo” of style sheet changes, application of just the character or paragraph settings from a style sheet to the current text selection (from mouse or keyboard), fast individual style sheet copying between multiple open documents, easy cross-document style comparison (just click back and forth between two documents to see the differences in a given style), the ability to restore one or more settings in a style sheet from its parent style (just click on a given field in the editor palette with the option key held down), and much more.
Xstyle’s paragraph style field shows you independently whether the paragraph settings (“+”) and the character settings (“...”) have been modified relative to the underlying style sheet.

The enclosed Xstyle™ 1.5 Demo Xtension is a full-fledged Xstyle, except that it is view-only, and ignores all attempts to change settings in both palettes. As it is, it’s still quite useful, as you can look at all the character and many of the paragraph settings of selected text with the Xstyle palette, and view most style sheet properties with the Xstyle Editor palette.
The enclosed Xstyle™ 1.5 Ref Card is an XPress 3.1 document containing a one-page summary of Xstyle’s palette contents and keyboard shortcuts.
